Afon Mawddach near Arthog

Back when we had our camper van, Di and I would occassionally take it for overnight stays “locally” within the Eryri National Park. Arthog is on the south side of the Afon Mawddach, not too far from the Barmouth Bridge.

On this particular trip, we stayed on a campsite located on the shores of the river. It has just a few pitches that are right on the riverside, and in the summertime these are booked up months in advance.

Our visit was in Febuary, and we had the site to ourselves. We were treated to to a fine sunset over the estuary.

It turned into a wild night. The wind picked up and it rained heavily, battering the van and depriving us of our sleep. The river is still tidal at this point, and for a while we were concerned the level would rise and flood the campsite.

It didn’t of course, and we departed intact, though tired, next morning.
